Hydropower Development
Development of a five-plant hydropower cascade along the St. John River, engineered for long-term operational efficiency.
Integrated cascade design that balances river flow management with maximum renewable energy output.
Combined hydropower output of 405 MW, delivering stable baseload generation throughout the year.
Designed to significantly expand Liberia's generation capacity and reduce dependence on diesel-based systems.
Provides reliable power to support industrialization, manufacturing, and infrastructure expansion across the region.
Forms a critical backbone for cross-border energy exchange through the West African Power Pool (WAPP).
Integrated Solar-Hydro
Solar production remains strong during low-flow months, helping maintain daytime supply when hydropower output decreases.
Higher river levels in the wet season increase hydropower generation, offsetting the natural dip in solar output.
The HEP-1 reservoir stores water during peak solar hours and releases it later to keep overall power delivery stable.
This hybrid development strengthens Liberia’s energy security while creating new opportunities for regional power exchange. Surplus electricity from the project is positioned to flow into the ECOWAS network through the West African Power Pool (WAPP), supporting broader grid stability. By integrating hydropower with large-scale solar, Global Green Energy & Power (GGEP) and its subsidiary LGE are establishing a resilient, scalable, and sustainable model for energy growth across West Africa.
